Fictitious Clan Day

"The MacBumbles lost their kilts again,
The O’Flannels shrank theirs in the glen.

The Clan McSnore just slept right through,
While MacMishaps in the well they flew!

The McDoodles doodled, missed the fight,
And MacChew just chomped with all their might.

So raise a glass and have a spree—
For Scotland’s silliest clans, yippee!"

~ Ballad of Clan MacFiction

The Scottish Register of Tartans includes several tartans associated with fictional clans, often created for literary works, events, or as playful inventions. This eye-catching tartan was humorously designed for the "McPeeks" - listed as "a fictional forgotten clan", from an as yet unidentified adult Scottish fairy tale (!) created by Jack Sullivan.

The McPeeks are described as having a very small stature, less than 90 cm (approximately 35 inches). One wonders what they could be peeking under ... but not to digress ... colours in this used are: scarlet for the red wine drunk by the McPeeks; black for the resulting black eyes (!!); sky-blue for the skies above them when they awake and gold for the whisky they particularly enjoy! Sounds like quite a night! Peek-a-boo, curious and naughty McPeeks! 🤪 ❤️ 💙 💛 🖤 🧝‍♂️ 🧝‍♀️ 🥃

The Scottish Register of Tartans includes several tartans associated with fictional clans, often created for literary works, events, or as playful inventions. Notable examples include:

Gleneil (Spoof): Designed by J.B. Renwick of Lochcarron for Gleneil Publishers, this tartan accompanied a fictional book by Michael Brander about the fictitious Gleneil clan.

McMoosie: Created for the fictional McMoosie family featured in Terry Isacc's 'Tales of Brechin', a series of children's stories set in Brechin, Angus, Scotland.

Fascaray: This tartan celebrates the fictional Hebridean island of Fascaray, the setting of the novel 'Hame' by Annalena McAfee. Its colors are drawn from the natural environment described in the book.

DunBroch: The royal family's tartan from Disney/Pixar's animated film Brave uses "the ocean blue of the North Sea" and "deep scarlet [that] represents the family’s reverence for its own history and the blood shed during battles between the clans."

MacDuck: The tartan for Scrooge McDuck, a character from Disney comics and media, is called "Ancient MacDuck."
